BusinessNZ achieves carboNZero certification

Posted in: Toitū Together

New Zealand's largest business advocacy body, BusinessNZ, is now certified as carboNZero.

BusinessNZ Chief Executive, Phil O'Reilly said:

"In the run up to the climate change talks in Paris, a number of businesses are demonstrating leadership and reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. BusinessNZ is no different. We take climate change seriously and we're demonstrating that by becoming carboNZero certified.

"We are moving towards a carbon-efficient economy. All businesses and organisations will need to have a better understanding of their emissions profile and how they can be more efficient.

"There is business value in managing and reducing carbon emissions. Through the process of understanding our emissions we have been able to identify a number of areas where we can be more efficient and make financial savings.

"For starters, our air travel makes up 90 per cent of our carbon footprint so that's where we will be focusing our efforts in the next year. We're already increasing our use of video conferencing instead of traveling for meetings and have introduced a variety of waste and energy reduction initiatives."

Sustainable Business Council Executive Director, Penny Nelson said:

"For some years the Sustainable Business Council's members have committed to measuring and reporting their carbon footprint as well as their plans on how they will reduce their carbon intensity.

"We're delighted that BusinessNZ has now achieved carboNZero certification for their headquarters in Wellington and can share the story of what's been learnt with others."
