The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has released the next version of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard, now out for consultation 18 March – 1 June. The Standard is a framework for companies to set targets in line with the latest climate science, and it is widely regarded internationally for its role in reducing the impacts of climate change.
The SBTi is a collaboration with groups such as CDP, the UN Global Impact, the World Resources Institute and WWF. They work to provide an international standard and tools to accelerate decarbonisation. Organisations around the world set science-aligned targets as an actionable emissions reduction path that aligns with the Paris Agreement goals to limit global temperature rise.
As a part of Toitū Envirocare’s ambition to help Aotearoa reduce emissions, organisations under our Climate Impact programme need to set emission reduction pathways and targets. It ensures they can successfully transition to a decarbonised future and make climate performance claims with confidence.
Toitū welcomes the latest SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard draft release and is currently reviewing the proposed changes. A summary of our thoughts, including how we think this will inform and shape our own Climate Impact programme, will be released to our clients in due course.
