Irirangi Te Motu | NZ On Air is an Autonomous Crown Entity as defined by the Crown Entities Act 2004 and established under the Broadcasting Act 1989. It is governed by an independent Board appointed by the Minister for Media and Communications. Monitoring oversight is provided by the Crown Entity Manatū/ Ministry for Culture & Heritage. NZ On Air’s primary function is to reflect and develop New Zealand identity and culture by promoting (funding) content about Aotearoa New Zealand for local audiences, including under-represented communities. This is achieved by investing in a wide range of New Zealand screen, radio and online content. NZ On Air is charged with achieving its purpose by promoting (funding) content about New Zealand and New Zealand interests and promoting Māori language and culture.
