Professional Services
LandLAB is a design-led, studio-based practice. As our name suggests, our philosophy integrates a site specific approach (‘Land’) with a creative and rigorous design process (‘LAB’). Our work reflects our interrogation of the relationships between the ecologies and systems of ‘landscape’, ‘urbanism’ and ‘place’. We are landscape architects and urbanists operating at the intersection of ecology, landscape and urban design. We look at urban spaces, places and territories through the lens of ecological and landscape urbanism. We specialise in urban, infrastructural and the landscape-led revitalisation of regions, cities and neighbourhoods. We design urban environments, precincts, public spaces and landscapes that respond and adapt to the ecologies of nature, culture, infrastructure, economy and people. Our studio consists of 15 designers with different backgrounds and skillsets. Collectively we have designed approximately 150 projects at various stages of the creative process, from conceptualisation to construction. We are affiliated with the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects (NZILA), Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ) and Urban Design Forum (UDF) New Zealand. The nature of our work involves frequent collaboration with engineers, architects, scientists, lighting designers, artists, and specialists in various fields. Our clients are governments, councils, developers and urbanists. We are based in Aotearoa New Zealand, and we have recently established a small studio in Melbourne Australia. Note that for the purposes of this report, our Auckland studio alone will be considered, as the base measurement year excludes the establishment of the Melbourne office.
