Toitū is progressing toward full compliance with the updated ISO 14066 standard. We’ve been approved under the self-declaration mechanism and will undergo a formal on-site assessment by JASANZ, our accreditation body, in May to confirm our alignment.

ISO 14066 is an internationally recognised standard that sets out the qualifications and competencies required for professionals who validate and verify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data. It ensures that emissions reporting is carried out by experts with the right knowledge, skills, and ethical standards. Meeting this standard helps ensure that our carbon certification processes are technically robust and trusted globally.

While self-declaration shows we’ve updated our systems and processes to meet the new requirements, third-party verification is key to confirming that we’re truly meeting the mark. That’s why JASANZ - the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand - will independently assess our updates. This kind of external review is critical to maintaining confidence in the services we provide.

Toitū has been accredited by JASANZ since 2008 to deliver our Carbon Reduce and Net Carbon Zero programmes. Accreditation means that these certification systems have been rigorously evaluated against international best practice. It’s what makes our certifications not only credible but recognised and accepted in international markets.

Take, for example, Silver Fern Farms - a Toitū client exporting to environmentally conscious markets like the European Union. These markets increasingly require emissions data that is not just measured, but independently verified and certified by an accredited body. Our ISO 14066 accreditation gives Silver Fern Farms exactly that level of assurance, helping them meet international expectations and strengthen trust with buyers and regulators.

We look forward to completing the JASANZ assessment and will share more on our progress soon. In the meantime, you can learn more about how we uphold impartiality and transparency by visiting our Impartiality page.
