Overview

Industry

Healthcare

Forte Health is a Private Surgical Facility in Christchurch which was built following the Canterbury Earthquakes. We are a short stay facility offering a range of elective surgeries, including Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, Otorhinolaryngology, Plastics, Maxillofacial and General Surgery. Forte Health hospital is a tenant in the Forte Health Building owned by Nobby Holdings Ltd and during the design and build of the facility in 2014, the two organisations worked closely together to ensure that Sustainability was a core value. Forte Health recognises that the health sector is one of the biggest contributors to waste and users of energy in the environment and is committed to continuous work towards reducing our impact.

When building our purpose built hospital an additional $1m was invested within the building during construction to include green features such as high performance glass such as LowE, argon filled double glazed & tinted glass, sustainably sourced timber, thermal insulation, energy efficient cooling systems, LED lighting including daylight harvesting, solar hot water panels for preheating hot water, marked and designated carparks for fuel efficient transport, bicycle storage including showering facilities, waste management facilities to minimise waste and maximise recycling, drought tolerant native plants, building & fitout design to maximise light and ensure internal noise control, applied coatings and finishes selection to limit VOC’s and improve indoor air quality and the reuse of a brownfield site. With all these green features we have achieved a 4 Green Star building rating and this has enabled us to drive a sustainability culture very early in the life of the organisation.

Forte Health’s building, its people and governance has embedded Sustainability as a way we do things at Forte. Working with Toitū to achieve Gold certification has taken us on a journey to formally recognise that. Our culture is that of protecting each other and protecting our environment in any way that we safely can. Working with Toitū has helped us to create stronger frameworks to achieve our bold vision of becoming carbonzero. At FHL it is our responsibility to reduce our impact on the world for those that our going to follow us.
