Established following the WAI388 Treaty of Waitangi Settlement, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa Limited is the commercial investment company of the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Group and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust.

Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa Limited (Whai Rawa) has primarily been a property development and investment company. With over 160 hectares of commercial and cultural whenua (land) in our portfolio, our principal objective is to maximize the financial and economic returns to the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Group, so it can support Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei whānau for generations to come. Employing approximately 25 full-time staff we are a small but strong purpose-driven company. Funds generated by Whai Rawa are used to support the tribal development goals of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Maia Limited. Whai Maia is the Tribal Development arm that is responsible for portfolios including environment, education, health and wellbeing, sporting and cultural activities.

Current land holdings of Whai Rawa are inclusive of, but not limited to, papakāinga land in Ōrākei, vacant land in Mount Albert, North Shore land inclusive of Naval housing and land under a deferred ownership transfer, Ōrākei Marina Berth and Eastcliffe Retirement Village situated in Ōrākei.

Whai Rawa operates on the basis of our key mātāpono (values) which are inclusive of tino rangatiratanga (self-determination), rangatiratanga (leadership), manaakitanga (care and host responsibility), whanaungatanga (kinship), kotahitanga (unity), kaitiakitanga (guardianship), mana taurite (equity), ahi kaa (keeping the home fires burning), and wairuatanga (spirituality). The Toitū carbonreduce program allows us a further opportunity to carry out our principles of kaitiakitanga and rangatiratanga by leading the protection of our land, people, and taonga (treasures) forever. Being the mana whenua (holding territorial rights) of Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) it is imperative that we do the utmost to sustain our land and environment.

Toitū te whenua, toitū the mana, toitū te mauri ora.

Ake, ake, ake!

Hold fast to the land, hold fast to our pride, hold fast to all living things.Forever and ever.
