Northland Regional Council (NRC) is a local authority governed by elected members of Council under the Local Government Act 2002.
As a council, our purpose is to enable democratic decision making for our local communities and promote their social, economic, environmental, and cultural wellbeing, now and in the future. Our mahi falls under three categories (1) care for the natural environment – particularly around land and water, biodiversity, and biosecurity, (2) improving community resilience - through flood risk reduction, civil defence coordination, harbour safety, transport and climate change and (3) displaying regional leadership - through our work with communities and Māori.
