Smart is New Zealand’s third-largest waste and recycling contractor and currently provides kerbside collection of refuse and recyclables, food waste and green waste services to 18 local authorities throughout New Zealand. Smart Environmental has been in the Waste, Recycling, Resource Recovery and Parks industries for 30 years. The company initially operated as Streetsmart Ltd, then rebranded to Smart Environmental Ltd (Smart). Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, a global leader in sustainable waste management, has recently acquired Smart Environmental Group. Smart handles over 300,000 tons of waste annually across municipal, commercial, and consumer sectors, and this new ownership will enable us to introduce proven technologies into New Zealand, such as affordable food scrap processing and landfill remediation, to accelerate Aotearoa’s zero-waste goals. Smart includes the division, Earthcare Environmental Limited, which is particularly strong in organic material collection and processing, an area where we see significant future growth opportunities. We provide collection services to more than 430,000 households across 18 Councils around the country, as well as more than 90,000 private consumer and commercial customers; has a workforce of more than 400 employees and operates more than 250 waste vehicles.
