Manufacturing
Sustainability and adaptability have always been a hallmark of Precision since its formation in 1921 and this shines through given the company has witnessed and survived through the Great Depression, World War 2, the Polio Epidemic, numerous world financial crisis’s and global conflicts and more recently, the Covid-19 Pandemic. During these times Precision has continued to grow and prosper.
From a company making machined parts in a small 576 ft² shed in Petone, Precision has reinvented itself countless times starting with producing milk tokens, supplying gramophone parts and number plates, to manufacturing both timber and steel office furniture in the early 2000’s.
In its current edition, Precision is a market leader in the design & supply of steel filing & storage products.
Through this self-recycling, Precision has developed into an agile and lean company that leaves minimal environmental footprint -sustainability for Precision means doing a lot with very little.
Precision, during its design process, will look at the environmental impacts of the materials being considered for supply, how products will be packaged and how components can be utilised into multiple product lines to ensure our environmental footprint is as small as possible while meeting the needs and expectations our customers.
Precision recognises that problems are also potential improvement opportunities, an example of such is when our company’s recycler halted taking polystyrene waste. Rather than seek out a replacement provider, we sought to eliminate the use of polystyrene and add further functionality to the affected products.
A dedicated project team was established, and objectives & goals laid out. A major redesign to the product was undertaken with the brief that product look and feel the same, improve its capability and eliminate the need for polystyrene packaging. By working with our designers and supply partners, Precision was able to achieve this without compromising our products style, function or market appeal. We are continuing to focus on opportunities to further improve our product range across all facets.
Sustainability is not just one point in time to Precision but is ever evolving over time.
By sticking to this philosophy, Precision has managed to survive and grow over its current 100-year history and looks forward to 100 more.
